Or: This is the fic where the author rewatched No Way Home for the first time since its theatre release (and sobbed multiple times) so the author took matters into their own hands and gave Peter the happy ending he deserved.

It wasn’t often Kaoru woke up before Kojiro. With the exception of a rare lazy day, Kaoru would wake up to the quiet sounds of music from the kitchen, even quieter singing, and a once annoying, now welcoming clanging of pots and pans as Kojiro cooked breakfast. If Kaoru was truly lucky, he wouldn’t wake up until he felt a dip in the bed, soft lips and calloused hands on his body, and when he opened his eyes, a warm smile from his husband would be the first thing he saw. Some variation of “good morning, princess” would be spoken, Kaoru would muster the energy to roll his eyes but smile as he pressed a kiss to Kojiro’s lips.
But today was different.
AKA: The author projecting their head canon that Kojiro had nightmares about almost losing Kaoru after That Race with Adam.

Shane pats Parker’s shoulder, such a genuine gesture that Ilya wonders where he’s going with this. “Do a favor for me?” He leans in a little closer, physically blocking Parker from seeing Ilya.
“What?”
Shane’s smile fades away. His voice is stern, final when he answers. “Get back to your team, and step the fuck away from my husband?”
He doesn't bother to mince his words. Not tonight, with Ilya being as exhausted as he is, and not with Ilya being uncomfortable. He rarely gets to see him this outwardly protective. He expected Shane to come over, grab his hand and lead him away from the booth with some random excuse. But this—this is Shane losing his patience for all of those manners. His only concern is Ilya.

“Yes, I speak Russian,” he snapped, defensive and angry. He knew that it had been a mistake to even try to be friendly with Rozanov. “Why? Do I not look Russian to you?” He scoffed.
“No, not really,” Rozanov said. Some of his teammates laughed, although they mostly looked surprised that Shane was speaking to them at all. Rozanov didn’t laugh, though. “Are you Russian?”
“Go fuck yourself.”

Despite an inauspicious start, when Russia’s Ilya Rozanov learns that Canada’s Shane Hollander is fluent in Russian at their first World Junior Championships tournament, it changes everything and sets them on a different course. Instead of being branded as rivals from the very beginning, Ilya and Shane start off as friends.
