Gawain wasn’t used to manual work, that was immediately clear. She muttered something under her breath when she nailed through her glove on accident, giving Shane a sharp look when he snorted, and he could so clearly picture her as some fancy business-type, wearing pencil skirts and kitten heels and staring her bosses down with that same quirked eyebrow. Gawain made so much more sense in a navy-blue suit. Bosses or broken fence posts, analytic reports or weeds—she’d face it all with that same half-unruffled, half-amused expression, an undeniable challenge plastered across her face.
Shane changed his snort into clearing his throat. “Your boots are new,” he said.
Gawain looked down at them with furrowed eyebrows, like she was surprised to hear it. “Yeah?”
“You’re new to farming.”
“Or maybe I just bought new boots.” There was a warning edge to her voice. Shane didn’t really care enough to argue.
“Maybe,” he acquiesced.
