The boisterous way he carried himself, his shifty glances and gazes, his broken inventor facade, and his closeness to Andrew, who'd arrived just before him. None of it sat right with Victor, and that wasn't just his affinity for Andrew talking. Luca and Andrew had gotten too close recently. Edgar’s eyes slide over to watch the eccentric inventor on the other side of the room; Balsa is animatedly explaining something to Grantz and Kreiss, using his arms and hands to gesture wildly as he speaks, and he almost manages to smack Grantz in the face while doing this.
He watches this for a moment before he turns away with a frown on his face. It’s ridiculous, to be hanging on to the ghosts of the past, but here he is – secretly hoping to be remembered, to be acknowledged as more than just ‘the new survivor’ or ‘the Painter’– And he takes great offence in this; he is so much more than just a new survivor, a nameless player in this atrocious game they all have to partake in. He is Edgar Valden, and he makes sure the people in the manor know it, even if they don’t necessarily recognize the name.
The problem is that Luca Balsa should recognize it, yet doesn’t.

Luca wasn't necessarily thriving at the Manor, but he wasn't exactly having the worst time of his life either. He'd made incredibly close friends, and can see a bright future where he gets out of the Manor with the prize money and lives the big life.
That is, until a certain egotistical painter with a soft spot for framed prisoners comes along-- and puts Luca in the absolute worst possible situation of his life.
