Angel’s heart trips on a beat. The honesty of that confession startles their eyes open, forcing them back into the blue tunnel of Aki’s own inescapable ones. They want to speak, but they can’t—they can’t do anything, paralyzed by the strength of Aki’s words, of his touch, his presence.

Shane’s eyes meet his, and there’s a particular gloss to them that Ilya has come to recognize.
