Silence was a cozy knit ring around the two of you. Both being of few words even before meeting and discovering the slip into a comfortable silence after you had started dating was a relief. You remember explaining one night to Rusty that it always felt like you had to keep talking with some people, keep performing lest they walk away from a personality so desolate otherwise.
He didn’t see it that way, even if you had nothing to say. When you figured that out, it was as though another lock clicked shut that tethered you to him. You only hoped that was how he felt, as well. Him to you.

There was an art to what the trials were expecting you to execute: Fucking hide, and pray these living, breathing nightmares loose in the room wouldn’t catch you before you came up with the next bright idea. There was the written objective to this too, of course, but half of the time you were just getting by the skin of your teeth; closets and barrels becoming a girl’s best friend for making it out without too much to show for the trials on your body.
Scuffling into a dark room, you scowled as you stood close to one of those mannequins wearing next to nothing. She was wrapped in a black bra, curling lace along a wire pushing up for support and waist-high panties with those garters that supported two black nylon knee-high stockings. While the attire was a little out of place in the courthouse rather than the theatre or even the shopping mall, it was a sight you weren’t surprised by. Of course these freaks shared their “girls”, although you could question the sharing capabilities of both Barbi and…who you were sharing the sadism maze with tonight.
“Gonna fry you up like a side of bacon with my breakfast!”
