Inside sits a stunning diamond ring. It’s relatively simple, all things considered. A circle cut diamond on a silver band with smaller diamonds leading down the band from the larger stone, inlaid in intricate metalworking that makes them look almost like vines.
Donna staggers backwards, unable to stop staring at it. Her knees hit the bed and she collapses onto it, trying to remember how to breathe.

“Hey.” He murmurs. She can feel the frayed thread of his voice; it always gets rougher when he has one of his nights, ragged and lower than usual. “Did I wake you?”

Natasha Romanoff is a spy, an Avenger. She is also falling in love with Steve Rogers.
Unfortunately, like most things in their lives, the timing is pretty bad.
Steve nods and tries to leave again, but she throws herself across the doorway. He looks mildly irritated now, “Natasha!”
She reaches up to cup his face in her hands, “Sorry. Just didn’t want you to go without a kiss goodbye.”
Steve’s face doesn’t quite soften, and Natasha doesn’t blame him for not wanting to let his guard down entirely right now, but he does set his suitcase down and draw her in by her hips, “What are you going to tell the others?”
Natasha puts her arms around his neck, “That you’re thinking it over, but you have a personal emergency.”
Steve kisses her then. It feels like a goodbye, like they won’t be seeing each other in three days. He stamps one last kiss on her cheek, “Take care of yourself, Romanoff.”
She nods, “I always do.” Finally, she steps aside and lets him exit his room. “Steve?”

Natasha doesn’t deny it, her lips quirking into a smirk. “Stay still, okay?” she orders, punctuating the command with a quick kiss to the corner of his mouth. It’s brief, but enough to make him freeze, his playful grin softening into something more tender.
“That’s cheating,” he murmurs, his voice lower now, his eyes darkening a little.
“Whatever works,” she replies, already back to trimming his beard. He was already turned on when they were just starting but that kiss just made the things, well, him more…. Hard. He could just blame it on the cold air, but who is he kidding? He’s sitting between the legs of his stunning girlfriend, focused and effortlessly beautiful, even as she’s just trimming his beard.
God, he had it bad for her.
