So, here's the prognosis: Eggman, supernaturally good-natured, behaving like a vermin that, at this new dawn, has been reborn tamed. His friends, all off on a trip to some remote destination, safe in the knowledge they won’t be back until further notice. And the town, or television, or magazines, cleared of distractions, or stimuli, to help him squander energy.

Shadow The Hedgehog es una mascota asistente. Cómo su nombre lo indica, fue criado y adiestrado para ayudar a personas con discapacidad o enfermedades que perjudiquen en su vida cotidiana, y Shadow es feliz con su humana María, una niña con una enfermedad casi desconocida pero que intenta hacer su vida normal con todos los niños de su edad.
No había nada fuera de lugar en su vida, María asiste a la escuela y Shadow la acompaña a todos lados como su mascota asistente, tomándose en serio su trabajo de mantenerla a salvo.
Pero una visita a la agencia de mascotas quizás cambiaría la rutina de Shadow a la que estaba acostumbrado, cuando la curiosidad de María los lleva a la perrera y se encuentran con una mascota asistente sentenciada al encierro eterno.
