Summary
What he wanted was for it to be Lockwood and Lucy and him. Even thinking it, he knew he wasn’t part of the set, that he didn’t quite match, that it didn’t scan if he was included. A playwright would shake their head no, bite their pen, scratch out the last, to see his name in the list of lovers. On a surface level, the alliteration didn’t account for George; he was excluded by syllables. It wouldn’t abide for him to be included.

After the end of the end of the world, Jon and Martin end up in the same place the Entities do—which is to say, everywhere. The problem is, they’ve never been everywhere before, and it’s not as easy as it looks. While they would very much like to help the innumerable worlds that they doomed to the predation of the Dread Powers, they don’t have much practice at influencing reality through spooky books, monsters, or spacetime manipulation. That doesn’t mean they don’t try their best.
Elsewhere, in one of these innumerable worlds, Jon finds a book. It tells him to fall in love, and also, to invest in a cement mixer.
