Once Lucky was safely curled up on the sofa, they emerged onto the street once again and began walking to a place a couple blocks away that Kate promised sold “the best hot dog you will ever have in your life”. In an effort to remain as anonymous as possible, they went the longer way, avoiding the busier streets and sticking to back alleys.
In retrospect, that was their first mistake.
