The endless gray and black of Blade’s existence only occasionally had splotches of color. The purple of Silver Wolf’s hair ribbon as she demanded he help her comb her hair in the morning, even though his hands weren’t as steady as hers. The pink of Kafka’s favorite wine, shared with him at the end of a mission well executed. The teal of Firefly’s favorite dress, when she’d beg him to mend a new tear or burn or bullet hole, because she’d never learned how to sew.
The green of Dan Heng’s eyes, the same shade that haunted the dreams he so rarely had to begin with.

Dan Heng arrives alone at the High Elder’s statue, his heart beating in nervous apprehension. The note clutched within his fist had appeared overnight on the Express. And just like Jingliu’s did, it refused to reveal its contents to anyone but him.
Once again, he unfolds the paper in hopes of discerning more of its message.
Meet me where it all ended.
The note states ominously. No other information was included. The faint whiff of spider lilies the only clue he had to the location the note expected him to be. He had debated over whether or not he should go, while a feeling within him felt pleased that the man was reaching out to him, but another, louder, feeling protested against having to potentially have his entire world upended again.
Still, he had made a promise to Ren that he would not break, so after a quick notice to Himeko of his trip to the Luofu, he had made his way to Scalegorge Waterscapes alone.

Beside him, Yingxing shifts, adjusting the bend of his leg. He, too, knocks back a dainty cup of baijiu. Dan Feng watches him do it, mesmerized by the way his hair seems to fall just right.
Together, they share both drinks and company. They gaze up at where the immortal moon hangs itself against the dark pitch. All the while, there are no words exchanged between them. There is no need.
Back on the Astral Express, Dan Heng is unable to sleep. Luckily, Blade comes to his aid.
