Wolfwood opened his mouth and closed it again, and Vash could feel his heart race. It was quiet, muttered. "I love you."
Vash was always terrible at this. He slapped his shoulder and gave his best, far too big, drunk smile. "I love you, too!" Like he meant it like a friend. Like he was oblivious.
Wolfwood rolled his eyes and stayed silent the rest of the night. He knew it was a cop-out. Of course he did.

It's early morning. It's been months since that day. An aborted confession. Vash only has one actively healing bullet wound, which is less than usual. Wolfwood slept an entire night without nightmares, which almost never happens. He thinks it's time for an apology.

Wolfwood opens his mouth to tell Vash's he's a dipshit, he's a fuckin' idiot, he's crazy, but nothing comes out. He went straight from the orphanage, from Nico, to the Punisher; the thought of getting to actually… fuck had been the farthest thing from his mind.
"A virgin like you wouldn't last a second with me." The implied lie slipped out of Wolfwood before he could stop it, Vash flushing cherry red.
"Can we-" Vash pulled back, gripping nervously at his pants, eyes to the ground and saying quietly, "can we start with... just kissing, then?"

Wolfwood stopped breathing completely, chest burning and lungs screaming for air, but he just couldn’t get himself to move.
Faintly, he heard Vash babbling to himself, but all of it was just buzzing in his ears now.
What the fuck did I just say? I don’t… I’m not...
His wide eyes darted to Vash.
