This fic was started roughly around the release of CH289 and nine months before Blue Lock Full Color Selection 3. A significant amount of Kaiser’s backstory was not available at that time. The author continued with her own worldbuilding, so please plan accordingly.
For reference, House of Leaves is about 200,000 words (no one actually knows because House of Leaves). Dune is 190,000 with the appendixes. You could read both of those books, or one of them twice, or you could read Happy Up Here. Choose wisely!

But the joke’s on him. The ritual works, and before he knows what’s happening, there’s a demon in his kitchen, looking as murderous to be there as Sae is shocked to see it. Now, Sae is stuck with an actual demon, but not quite far from the revenge fantasy he had momentarily entertained.

It's even less fair that the one good thing he had, Regto, was burned away in the apartment fire. The last straw was how easily the fire starter was able to walk away from the scene.
Sure, they aren't blaming him. He's not in cuffs, but everyone thinks he did it. His only chance happens to be some random foster parent from several towns over. That's fine. He'll leave this place behind, but don't think for a second he's let it go. He may not know their face, but he'll find them. Then he'll do exactly what they've done to him: set it all on fire.
Modern AU! Rudo is left in the foster system after Regto dies in an apartment fire. Now he's gotta tucker on while being the only person who believes the fire wasn't an accident (or is he?).

Madrid gives him football, a room in someone else’s house, forms he can barely read, and the uncomfortable realization that being good at something does not make the rest of the world easier to live in. He misses home more than he expected to. He misses convenience stores, hearing Japanese in passing and becomes strangely attached to a black cat with teal eyes that keeps appearing outside because it reminds him of someone.
Across the alley lives a girl who leaves her window open, talks too quickly, cares too loudly, and teaches him Spanish by pointing at things until he learns their names properly. She sneaks him out when he gets bored, corrects his grammar without mercy, dances whenever there’s music, and treats him with the kind of casual certainty that makes it difficult to remember he is supposed to be alone.
Some things in Spain become easier with time. Others only become quieter. Some places you grow into, and some versions of yourself you survive becoming, and not all of them feel like winning.

The boy’s outline wavers for a second, as if unsure, before steadying itself. His head whips up as he observes his surroundings with vigor, eyes greedily devouring the entire school rooftop. He looks like someone seeing a place they never thought they'd see again.
His eyes lock onto Yoichi, still clutching at the old railing, and his mouth parts in surprise.
“I am Itoshi Rin,” he finally gasps out, “and I am dead.”
