They'd climbed onto each other to get piggy-back rides around a park. They'd gone bungee jumping, something which was far more terrifying than Adam had anticipated (and he'd anticipated a lot), leaving him leaning on Ben while he desperately tried to bring his pulse rate back down from lightspeed.
Really, it was a good thing that Adam already knew he was in love with his best friend. Shaken, exhausted, halfway around the world and on camera would have been a hell of a time for a personal revelation.
Adam had it under control. He took his pills precisely on schedule, he always carried an inhaler just in case, he hid his cough in his elbow, and he hadn't brought up a daffodil petal in months. His feelings were safely out of sight. The friendship was what mattered. He could - he would - live with it.

Sam stared at his reflection in the mirror of the hotel bathroom, trying to reassure himself that he looked fine, that no signs were visible. But what did he know? He'd never been good at reading people's faces. He'd never been good at feelings.
He'd been a fool multiple times over. A fool to forget the medication that allowed him to function and a fool not to reschedule filming once he realised he had a problem. But the team was already in Europe and the flights back would cost extra to reschedule and he didn't want to admit that he'd made a mistake. He didn't want to admit weakness.

Adam loved to travel. It was one of the reasons he'd helped design the Jet Lag concept. It brought him to places he would otherwise never go, showed him sights both famous and entirely unknown. It was the thrill of competition mixed with the joy of discovery. From that perspective, the rippling metallic tunnel in the cliff face ahead of them ought to fill him with delight, for it was certainly like nothing he'd ever seen before.
The problem was, there were no trains. There were no cell phones. There were no cameras, at least not ones under his control. And he and Ben were playing for their lives.
