Summary
Stiles comes back to New York with two full suitcases and an agonizing hope in his heart. It's all familiar still, but it's been two years, and everything has changed.
By far the biggest change is that when he knocks on his—no, Derek's—door, it's Lydia Martin who opens it.
He supposes that it's wrong, to expect a warm welcome from her.Still, the icy mask that settles over her features as she regards him, standing sheepishly in the doorway with his bags, is an unpleasant surprise. It's a look he hasn't seen—at least, not directed towards him—since high school, and he wonders what he did to deserve it this time.
Until he looks over her shoulder, that is. And he sees Derek Hale standing there, staring at him with the same confused hurt that Stiles had last seen on his face two years ago. It's only for a split second, until Derek masters his face into its own blank facade, but it's still long enough to take Stiles back to that moment...
And then Derek comes to stand behind Lydia in the doorway, his stance unmistakably protective and wary.
"Stiles," he says, with so little inflection or emotion that the word hardly exists.
"I'm back," Stiles offers weakly.

Years ago, when they were first starting out both in their relationship and their careers, when they were babies and hardly understood their car insurance let alone the multi-billion dollar, all-consuming, world-encompassing, life-altering business of news reporting—back then, Derek would practice his expressions in the mirror, and Stiles would think, I'm so glad he'll never have to use that face with me.
And then Stiles screwed up, and he's seen nothing but that face for the past two years. Aesthetically, it's still an awesome face, and it probably always will be, but Derek is so much more than another hot dude. And he always will be.

Still in the doorway of his home, Anthony blinks. Once. Twice. Eyes narrowing as he appraises her. “I beg your pardon?”
He doesn’t even look like he disagrees with her (which, she supposes she should feel grateful that even Anthony was aware of how much his sideburns made him look like a prick out of a shitty period piece). Behind him in the doorway, Kate snorts out a laugh and makes no effort to hide it as Anthony spins back to shoot her a look as well.

At the end of the day, whether it was the alcohol, the endless sense of frustration, or moreso just the idea that she had nothing left to lose, she decided to leap.
“I wasn’t. I wasn’t thinking of them when I drank.”
Colin turned his head away from her and looked out at the street in front of them, a smile pulling at his lips. “No? Well that’s interesting.”
“Is it?”
He faced her again, taking half a step forward. “Who were you thinking of?” His eyes drilled into hers with surgical precision, the dark blue getting darker.
She took a deep breath, feeling the blood heating in her veins.
“You.”
“Me?”
She nodded pathetically, any attempts to be playful and witty blown away with the breeze.
“You want to fuck me, Pen?” His smirk was subtle, but wicked, his words sending a delicious zing down between her legs again where she throbbed at even the notion.
