Summary
Mike pushes into his hands, but Will keeps him still.
"Ask again," he says. Because he's greedy, and he wants Mike to want him.
He stares at Will's mouth. "Please."
"Again."
El is gone.
Will tries to figure out how to move on in New York, and Mike follows him. Their apartment is haunted not by ghosts, but by the two of them.
Or: Catastrophically traumatized boys cling to each other and accidentally figure out how to be close—too close—while moving through their grief.

Summary
“Are you talking about…?” Will lets the question trail off, trusting Mike to know exactly what he means.
“Yeah,” Mike worries his bottom lip between his teeth. “Yeah. I’m talking about our conversation by the tower, Will.”
Hearing his name like that, deliberate, weighted, makes Will’s chest tighten. Mike only does that when something really matters. And this matters.
“I—” Will starts, then exhales in shaky relief when Mike cuts him off. Thank God. He has no idea what he was about to say. He’s barely holding himself together.
“Just let me finish, okay?” Mike says. Will could swear he shifts closer. “I mean… I can’t be more than your best friend. I just can’t, Will.”
The words hit like a punch, and before the ache in Will’s chest can fully set in, Mike rushes on.
“But I want to do things to you,” he says quietly, honestly, “that no best friends should ever want to do to each other.”
Or Mike is a repressed POS who wants Will without having to face what wanting him actually means.

Summary
He looks up at him, eyebrows drawn together. “Do you not love her?”
Mike shrinks back. “What?”
He hadn’t meant to say it. He wouldn’t have, if he’d stopped to think about it for half a second. But it’s too late to take it back, and he can’t breathe until he knows the answer, and he looks at him resolutely and says, “Do you only love her because of what I said?”
Something darkens on Mike’s face, twisting it into a shape Will’s never seen. “Get out.”
It’s not a no.
or: Mike and Will share a room, and Mike finds out the truth about the painting.
