Summary
Hongjoong was raised to believe all vampires are corrupted, unnatural things; perfect predators ruled by bloodlust, incapable of humanity. He’s seen the horrific damage they cause, has sent countless of them back to the fiery pits they crawled from. He is a prolific, experienced hunter, but humans are still fragile and he’s watched far too many of his fellow hunters fall to the ravenous creatures.
When his father is gifted a mysterious poison promised to turn the tide, they have no option but to take the risk that comes with it. Hongjoong's ideology is harshly challenged when the mission leaves him with a vampire bound to him and reliant on him for survival. Seonghwa is nothing like the monsters he’s hunted, calm and gentle even after the brutal captivity he is put through. “I reckon ye only be mad at me,” he started, his eyes closing shut like he knew the prince would bring him no harm. “ ‘Cause ye 'ave no freedom in yer own life.”
A simple sentence was all it was really, words compiled together to form a meaning. Sometimes such meanings were in fact meaningless, they held no truth and were only spoken for the sake of aggravation. Though in even rarer times, there was truth rooted in the very ground of the meaning and that was what caused the aggravation.
But what would a pirate know?
Or: Royal prince Seonghwa who is first in line for the throne, finally meets the recently captured and most feared pirate in all the Seven Seas who has been condemned to death. Every year on the feast on the Ceremony of the Golden Rose, the crown prince is to take a rose dipped in gold to present to one special prisoner as a gift of freedom and a new start at life. Hongjoong knew that witches were beautiful. He’d seen them before, dead bodies tied to pyres. They were always beautiful. He knew this, yet he still wasn’t prepared.
The creature's eyes opened and shut, unused to the brightness of the afternoon sun. Eyes landed first on the house and courtyard before him, then to Hongjoong’s father, then his brother, then him.
The eyes bored into his. Hongjoong saw the long, delicate eyelashes, angular eyebrows, and the perfect cheekbones. Long, slender fingers came out of the blanket to grip delicately onto the wood of the wagon beneath it. He barely saw the latter, consumed as he suddenly was.
The witch’s head cocked to the side, examining him. Time stood still, and Hongjoong’s breath caught in his throat as he was hit with the urge to vomit, to cry, to laugh, to sing, all at once.
In which Hongjoong, witch hunter, is tasked with delivering the witch Seonghwa to his execution.

Summary
When Prince Seonghwa is imprisoned on the pirate ship Twilight for a crime he never committed, he tries to plead his innocence, but no one will listen. No one except for the enigmatic pirate named San who is posted outside his cell.
Secretly, San and Seonghwa develop an unlikely, powerful bond. San tells Seonghwa stories, and Seonghwa teaches San to read.
They find hope in each other, but foul magic has infected the ship and it is slowly warping the crew to darker, more monstrous versions of themselves.
And Seonghwa? Seonghwa just wants to see the sun one more time.
