After the MAC-Z battle, Will is left recovering on the couch in the Squawk, El's and Dustin's crews are still M.I.A., and the kids of Hawkins are nowhere to be seen. Meanwhile, Mike is left with a storm of emotions that he doesn't really know how to deal with yet. As the Hawkins team prepare for the final battle, Mike and Will are finally forced to confront their feelings for each other.
tl;dr: mike wheeler is a cringefail loser, byler can't communicate for the life of them, and they both got it bad for each other. yeah just a standard post-vol 1 fic

“Where the fuck are we?” Mike says, hurrying to change the topic. “I’m not dead, right?”
Will huffs out a half-laugh, and Mike’s breath catches in his throat. “Not as far as I can tell,” he breathes, eyes probing their enclosure. It’s a cave-like thing, just big enough for the two of them, and with two quickly mending holes in the ceiling where Mike supposes the two of them fell through. He touches them, and guesses they’re already covered in a foot of vines with more moving as he examines. “I’m pretty sure we’re both still alive. Just… underground, I guess.”
Mike raises an eyebrow. “I didn’t know you could get further underground when we’re literally already in hell.”Or: On a routine trip to the Upside Down, Mike and Will get trapped in a cave underground. With emotions running high, some crucial conversations ensue.

“I don’t think that it has to mean that you’re into guys,” Lucas says. His words are accompanied by a casual shrug, and said in the tone of someone who has clearly already given this subject some thought. Will doesn’t know what to do with that information. Jump from a building, maybe. “I mean, we’d all get flustered if Spider-Man carried us in his arms.”
Mike points to him enthusiastically. “Thank you, Lucas.”
Dustin looks between the two of them, his eyes narrowed.
“...Would we?”
“Sure,” Mike concludes. “He’s attractive. That’s not a weird thing to think.”
Will just barely resists the urge to bang his head against the table. He feels Dustin’s eyes glued to his burning face, and sinks even further down his chair.
In which Mike tells Spider-Man that he has a crush on his best friend, and Will jumps to some very wrong conclusions.

Summary
The elite University of Caldera only accepts a limited number of students & an even more limited number are allowed in on scholarships. When Yue, a member of the figure skating team enrolled thanks to a nebulous scholarship, is brutally murdered with exactly eight witnesses - the pressure is on for Caldera police to solve the crime. Everyone is a suspect.
Siblings Sokka & Katara are forced to defend their innocence before they can process Yue's death. Suki just wanted to enjoy her freshman year & try new things but her connection to Yue is in question. Jet isn't a student but his history with drugs & violent offenses leaves the police suspicious. Zuko's problems with Yue are quick to come to light despite his best efforts. Daughter of a police officer & perfect student or not, Joo Dee's strange behavior leaves her a suspect. Azula & Ty Lee's plans regarding a dark prank & a secret exchange of money with a local politician leave their motives in question.
What was supposed to be a year of rigorous academia and a little partying quickly becomes a desperate bid for survival for the witnesses to Yue's murder as secrets come out and tensions rise.
