In an ideal world, Batman finds Jason Todd stealing the tires off of the Batmobile and grants him a second chance at a home. In this world, Jason Todd's circumstances force him to make a living by resorting to the only way he's ever been shown how. And in this world, that method doesn't involve anything that would lead Batman to finding and adopting Jason.
...Or does it?

When he confided in the working girls one quiet Tuesday night, they each soothed his fears in turn, telling him, “no honey, what you have there is a blessing,” with a somewhat sad smile.
But Jason instead thought himself cursed. What else would someone call having the power to hurt everyone close to you with the softest of touches and the most gentle of whispers? What else would someone call having the ability to kill someone with a word, whether intentionally or the horrible otherwise?
What else could he call it when he remembered how the burning anger on his father’s face had suddenly disappeared? Replaced by abject apathy at Jason’s hand and his shouted command. Except it hadn’t been a command, nor a plea, only the angry words of a scared child. He hadn’t meant them, not really. Not literally.
Yeah. Jason wouldn’t call that a blessing.

The man never returned. Instead, his nephew came to take the inheritance that was his by right.
The fact that he never expected Wells to exist didn’t take away from the fact Wells was, lawfully, his. The fact Wells refused to be free as long as “being free” meant leaving the only home he had ever known was a problem, when it turned out his master’s nephew fancied himself an abolitionist.

Summary
Alternate universe evil!Batman tries to blackmail his counterpart with evidence of his own crimes against children. He gets curbstomped for his trouble, and his living victims are rescued. But what are the rescuers to do with his accomplice, who aided him in killing and torturing people since he was old enough to hold a knife?
For Damian's part, he doesn't realize his father's victims have been rescued. From his perspective, they've just changed hands.

Damian shows up in the dead of night at Gotham City with swords on his back and a chip in his shoulder, ten years old with blood on his hands and a scowl so fierce that grown men have been known to turn away from it.
He’s on the run, but at the same time not, and he’s not sure what he’s doing but he knows what he’s expecting, because he’s there to see his Father and his Father was surely just like the stories his Mother used to tell; tall and strong and brave, a shadow in the night, the call of vengeance in the streets, a detective in his mind and a warrior in his soul, an experienced and incredible fighter who was and is everything that Damian should ever try to be.
Batman is all these things. Father is all these things. And yet, somehow, he still doesn’t quite match Damian’s expectations.
Nobody does.
(AKA That one fic with the focus on the fact that Damian was trained to be a killer ninja in probably not so good conditions, and that a sudden transition to the crazy Batfam and- more importantly- Dick Grayson, probably wasn't the easiest to deal with.)

It makes some sense why Alpha Bruce Wayne would take in some help, living basically alone in that big Manor with his little kid. But why choose children? And why choose the three of them? Dick, Jason can kind of understand, since Dick is a beta and almost an adult and might be supposed to learn from Mr. Wayne's butler. Tim being a new omega... Unfortunately, Jason can understand far too well why Mr. Wayne might want Tim. But Jason? Jason presented alpha. He understands his days at Wayne Manor will only last as long as Mr. Wayne's patience does.

Summary
Tim is an art forger. There’s no other word for it. He fakes antiquities and sells them. It’s illegal, it’s immoral, and it’s a total secret.
Tim has managed to avoid detection by his parents, their clients, the GCPD, Batman, INTERPOL, and, notably, Catwoman.
This all comes apart one soggy week in April, when Gotham mafia boss Callum O'Gowan gets an artifact he purchased from the Drakes appraised. Enraged by the fraud, O'Gowan kidnaps Tim on his way home from school to get back at Jack and Janet, who are totally certain that they’ve sold a genuine, authentic necklace and don’t really understand why this unpleasant large man is yelling so much.
In the aftermath, Tim struggles to keep his parents from discovering his lies, his neighbors from discovering his kidnapping, and his neighbors' alter egos from discovering his crimes.

Meanwhile, Jason Todd has just met the funniest freshman at Gotham Academy who is also clearly the most-up-to-something freshman at Gotham Academy. Also, all of his bullies are avoiding him suddenly.

Summary
In Jason’s defense, how was he supposed to know that the very expensive looking car he was jacking the tires from belonged to Mob Boss Bruce Wayne? It’s not like it was his fault! It was Wayne’s fault for leaving the tires out in the open to be stolen. Wayne later uses this same logic to say it’s not his fault Jason was just out in the open to be adopted.
