Peter stared down at the ground, his hands were numb. That wasn’t good, right? Hands shouldn’t be numb and unmoving. He couldn’t feel his fingers. He should be able to feel his fingers.
He looked down at his hands and went still. His hands were coated in blood. Thick and coagulated. He gagged, turning his head to the side and throwing up into the icy snow. He couldn’t remember… couldn’t remember how he got here. Whose blood was on his hands? Why was he in the snow in a zip up jacket and jeans? Peter turned, looking at the trail of blood in the snow behind him.

Peter startles awake when someone shakes him.
“Sorry, honey,” May says. Peter blinks a couple times and she comes into focus, her hair pulled back from her face. She’s trying not to look a certain way, but he can see it in her eyes anyway. She clears her throat, keeps talking. “But it’s…” She glances away, wets her lips. “You gotta get ready.”
He remembers what day it is, and his heart beats like a drum at someone’s execution. But he tries to put on a mask, make it all seem normal. It’s everything but, despite the fact that he’s been dealing with reaping day since he was born, between himself, Ben and May. That fear that one of them could be taken away. Sent to surefire slaughter. But now Ben is gone, taken despite never having his name drawn from a bowl, and May’s finally safe. Now Peter’s name is in there alone. The last Parker sitting on the chopping block. He doesn’t know how to be. He doesn’t know what normal is, when the Hunger Games are looming on the horizon.

Peter wakes up to white noise, static, a weight in his head that makes him feel like he'll never stand up straight again. His whole body is a wreck and every breath he takes is full of nails and pain. He can barely move.
Tony's face is the first thing to come into focus. If the blurry outline of him can be called focus.
"Tell me before May gets in here," Tony says, gravely serious. He rests his hand gently on Peter's shoulder. "I'm giving you that chance. What's going on?"
Peter knows he can't hide it anymore. He wants to sigh, but it hurts too much. Everything hurts too much. It shouldn't hurt this much.
