“Please tell me you're saving the best for last.” Galadriel complained, once they were alone. The private rink her father had built for his children was cavernous and quiet, despite the natural light that reflected blindingly across the ice. The slightest sounds echoed from the high ceilings.
“Your next victim isn’t scheduled until ten.”
“Who?”
Elrond flipped over a page on his clipboard. “Oh, yes. Smith. Halbrand Smith.”
“Smith? Never heard of him.” Such a common, unremarkable name. Not like Noldor, which had come to mean something in the figure skating community. Something about Noldor and Smith as a pairs name made her nose crinkle in distaste.
“I guess I’m a little early.” A voice called from the far end of the building, near the back door no one ever used. She didn’t know how long he’d been sitting there, watching the show, but he crossed the length of the ice in a pair of hockey skates. A giant equipment bag slung over his shoulder as if it weighed nothing.

He wore his pain on the outside, the way I wore mine on the inside, and I mistook that for honesty. But it was not Halbrand who answered when I pressed my mouth to his, or whispered my doubts into his skin. It was Sauron.
And yet...he was the first one to truly see me. He saw the fury I could never purge, the pride I never confessed, the hunger that curled in my belly like fire. I remember the weight of his body over mine; his breath against my ear; the way he said my name as if he had known it long before the world began. I remember wanting him, not despite what he was, but because of it. Because he matched something I have always carried and never dared name.
They say light drives out the dark; I have lived long enough to know better.
Light calls to darkness, as surely as darkness calls to light. He was drawn to my light, and I to his darkness. Somewhere, somehow, in between, we became fully known...and perhaps, even, fully loved."

Frodo fails.
The good people of Middle Earth succumb to the rule of the One Ring and its only master, Sauron. In his victory, he promises only a cruel decimation of the world as he reforges it in his image. Except, of course, his chief adversary needs to make things more complicated. Another bargain struck. An accord for a hand in marriage, in exchange for a fading chance to save Middle Earth from utter ruin.

Summary
The War of the Last Alliance never happened, the One Ring never forged, and the great Dark Lord gave up.
Sauron, without warning, abandoned all his plans and surrendered himself as a prisoner. Middle-earth returned to peace, and for three centuries Galadriel believed that would remain.
However, an evil force lurked in the shadows. Morgoth was returning, weaker, but still too powerful to be ignored.
In the caos, a desperate solution was offered: make Sauron an ally, binding him to Galadriel in ancient ceremony, that would keep his power and the dark lord himself in check, and together they would defeat the enemy. Once and for all.
