Why, why, why did it have to be an engagement, of all things? Other people had explained that it made for a stronger union, but Steve wasn’t sure he believed them. Natasha had offered the cynical opinion that a royal wedding was also a highly visible event, one that sent a clear message to their enemies, whereas just signing a treaty was much quieter. Well, the news would certainly make a splash either way.
The relationship between the two kingdoms had always been… strained. Never outright hostile, but certainly not friendly. Neither king had met the other in person, preferring to send messengers and diplomats in their stead. Steve would have rather talked face-to-face, but apparently Stark didn’t. How they were supposed to have a harmonious marriage when one of them wouldn’t bother meeting the other, Steve didn’t know.Steve travels to the neighboring kingdom for his impending nuptials to King Stark, escorted by a bothersome knight.
