This fic is based off of the "final" achievement in OMORI, "It's all a dream..." While daydreaming myself, I thought whoa, what if it actually was? MARI's death, HERO'S anguish, AUBREY's fury, KEL & SUNNY'S repression. The entirety of those four years, all just a dream, all of it never really happening.
But just because it didn't happen doesn't mean they aren't affected. Trauma is still trauma, and grief is still grief. SUNNY and BASIL struggle under the weight of their actions, multiplied now by having to see an alive and well MARI, who while is told about the dream, has no idea how to comfort them from an event that never actually happened. HERO, while so excited to date his love again and finally be able to see her outside of her horrible coffin, doesn't know how to cope. KEL and AUBREY struggle with reality, not knowing what's real and what's not anymore.
And MARI is very confused and concerned. She didn't have this dream, but.. everyone is so freaked out. Not only that, but they're worried about her mental being too. What? -

Siffrin is selfish. Loop knows that Siffrin is selfish, so why do they do this? Offering to share their life with Loop, just so Loop isn't lonely. It's too much. But Loop is selfish too. Surely there's no way that this could go well, and there's no way they could accept. Unfortunately, it's not like they're given much of a choice here.

"Grian, what are these?"
Weakness, he tries to rasp; it comes out garbled, so he sucks in a long, slow breath and tries again, lungs trembling with the effort. "Weak– weakness."
Scar drops the bottle like it's burned him. "You took three weakness potions?" he chokes out, and that seems to break whatever trance Xisuma, Pearl, and Tango have been in this entire time. They rush forward, eating the distance between them in rapid strides, until they're all crouched around Grian.
Grian shuts his eyes again, before remembering he isn't supposed to do that. He wants to say sorry. What he says instead, is: "It was– safer. Like this. For you."
It amounts to about the same thing.
Or, I finally buckle down and post the rough draft of hunger au, where I give Grian every mental illness known to man and also a few new ones. Please heed the tags.
