“Your teeth are going to fall out.” Ronan said, grabbing the red pack that sat between them on the stone bench. He broke the seal on the pack, opening it, and flipping one cigarette over before removing a different one to smoke.
“How considerate.” K said in a puff of smoke. “Flipping my lucky for me.” His gaze flitted over to Ronan.
“I’m practically cooking you breakfast, lunch and dinner.”
“Nah, you’d have to flip two more cigs for that.”
Ronan couldn’t help but laugh at that one. Kavinsky was so bony, it would be hard to believe if he didn’t only have cigarettes as meals. He didn’t think he’d ever seen Kavinsky eat anything but communion crackers and pills.

Summary
Last year, in the Fourth of July's sweltering summer heat, Joseph Kavinsky tried to take his own life.
He succeeded for only a few minutes, but survived, his loyal dogs dutifully saving the life he didn't want. Hospitals and rehab were an awful way to come back into the realm of the living and the sobriety didn't stick. Kavinsky drops out of high school, aimless and miserable, trying to regain control of the dream forest that now has him branded for what he is-a dream thief. What's worse, he's begun pouring black, tarry liquid from his fucking face anytime he doesn't dream for too long. Trying to hide his supernatural ails and struggling to keep the pieces of his life together enough not to burden his friends, a voice begins to come to him in his sleep, promising a better world for dreamers like him. Movement with freedom. No more nightwash. A world that was shaped for things like him.
The pack graduates from Aglionby and go to begin their lives of college and adulthood, and Kavinsky is left alone to his own devices. Sick of the excuse of a life he's been living, he gives in to the wills of the mysterious dreamer sharing his nights, and discovers he is, for better or worse, much less alone than he believed.

“Proko.” He barks, uncharacteristically loud. “I swear to fucking God, if you don’t shut the fuck up—“ Proko leers at him, all stuck-out ears and invisible white eyebrows and a zit on his chin, licking his lips theatrically.
“You gonna do something about me, J?” He purrs, and not for the first time Jiang wishes he’d gone to fucking Shattuck instead of ending up at Aglionby with Proko as his d-partner.
“Murder.” He says grimly, and then goes to beg their manager for a fistful of Tylenol.
(AKA, Jiang suffers eternally, plays hockey, and is fed up by everyone and everything. With sexy results.)

Other people had skeletons in their closets. Ronan Lynch’s closet had held the warm honey of Gansey’s voice, Adam’s elegant hands and a demon. Kavinsky was the most intoxicating demon he knew. He stung harder than alcohol, hurt better than a fistfight and his mouth was ten times more illegal than a street race.
OR
Ronan needs to come to terms with the fact that he's a total bottom and Kavinsky, well ... Kavinsky has feelings, too.
