It was quiet. Far too quiet for comfort. The room was caked in a layer of dust one could only feel in the darkness of it; the smell of a neglected body and abandoned food would drive anybody away. And yet, it was all lost to the haze Leo had run to in search of a form of comfort. Such a shameful dissociative state Knights’ composer had become, a shell of his former self. No longer the sun, only a coward locking himself within the confines of his room. Here, in this fuzzy nothing, he would dig through the depths of his mind for voices that were one familiar. Most days, Izumi wakes up earlier than Leo does, slipping out of their shared bed without a sound. (Not that it matters if he’s loud; Leo sleeps like a rock on the worst of days.) Leo wakes up to an empty space beside him and a still-hot pot of coffee on the counter (the Italian coffee is phenomenal, even Leo — who knows nothing and could care less about quality cuisine — can recognize) and a note in prim, clean script about what jobs Izumi has today and when he’s going to be back and Remember to eat lunch, idiot, go to a restaurant if you aren’t in the mood to cook. And in the late-morning quiet of their shared apartment Leo sips his coffee — just the right temperature from sitting on the counter — and reads the note and smiles to himself at the love in every neat letter.
Today, though, Leo wakes up to the sun streaming through their bedroom window — the gauzy fabric of their curtains doesn’t do anything to block out the light — and Izumi, still asleep and warm beside him.
