Summary
When Shane lets himself think about what it might be like at All Stars, there's a blurry gap where he's standing. Ilya will be wearing something stylish and sexy — probably a shiny shirt that makes Shane want to grab him and never let go. There's nothing Shane owns that fits in that category.
But Reebok and Rolex have both had him work with stylists for appearances in the past. He pulls up the photos of those events, and flips through the photos. He sends them to Rose.
Which of these is better?
She replies to the Rolex photo with six exclamation marks.

And maybe he didn't know Rozanov either. Maybe that's what this was. An imaginary man he'd build inside of his rival's body, one who was gentle and patient and wanted him and saw him and was maybe really fucking good at sex, and was a little insecure, who needed Shane in the same ways that Shane needed him. But maybe that Ilya didn't exist.
Probably that Ilya didn't exist.
Probably he never had, had he?
Shane's not sure what he was making up and what was really there.

“A flower shop? Why do you get the sex shop? And I’m—I’m selling flowers.” Hollander’s nose scrunches up, like he can’t imagine anything worse than floral arrangements. Like he’d be the one running a dildo store.
“Because I am the sexy one. You are—boring, like I say. These writers—they know this. They are” —he gestures, searching for the word— “insight. Perceptive.”
A rosy flush appears along the ridges of Hollander’s cheekbones. Soft pink behind a constellation of freckles. Fucking lethal. “Right. Yeah. This sounds dumb. And it’s an invasion of privacy.”
Not this again. “Do you own actual flower shop?”
Hollander looks panicked, like he might have forgotten if one of his properties houses a florist. “No, I—”
“Then is not invasion. Story is very hot, very sexy. Let me tell you. I will read.”

“You smoke,” Shane says, amused. He fumbles with finding the ledge on the cap to snap it off and get the joint. He ends up just squeezing the top of the tube until it pops open. Ilya watches him take out the joint and hold it between two fingers to his lips.
Ilya pinches the bridge of his nose, sighing. “Yes, I smoke” he starts, “but I do not do drugs.”

Summary
Finally, with just a handful of skaters left to go, Shane spots him making his way onto the ice.
Ilya Rozanov, the announcer calls him, and Shane murmurs the name to himself, feeling the shape of it in his mouth.
The music begins, and Rozanov starts to move. Shane has never seen anything like it. He’s mesmerised, watching Rozanov carve graceful lines across the ice, his speed shocking combined with how gracefully he moves. His face, when it’s shown on the jumbotron, barely betrays any effort, a serene look of calm focus on his face. It’s a stark contrast to the music he’s skating to, a dramatic and stormy orchestral piece.
If Shane thought Rozanov was hard to look away from by the beach, this is a whole other level.
