Summary
The first line addresses the recipient, but the name had been scored out so harshly Zanka can feel the indents through the back with a pass of his thumb. The first word is most certainly Dear, and he can just about make out an a and what falls between an m and an n in the next one, but anything else is a lost cause.
My name has an a at the start, his thoughts supply, there's an n next to that.
His rational side doesn't bother to brush it off as a simple coincidence, and he feels his heart stammer in his chest.
After leaving his window open to sleep, a mysterious love letter finds its way into Zanka's hands. The name of whoever it's addressed to is unintelligible, but that doesn't stop him from getting his hopes up, especially when the contents start to sound strikingly similar to Jabber's words from the past.

Mankira's been drawn back, Zanka notes. "What?" He asks, because he's weak like that. Curious when he should be seizing the moment to strike.
"Let's have a bet." Jabber's eyes do that thing, where they're excited and hopeful and anticipating.
Jabber offers a bet. Zanka agrees, sort of. The result is unexpected, but sure is... Something.

The bell chimes, and Zanka looks up. “Hello! Welcome to–” he pauses, and his face drops into a deep scowl, “Oh, it's you.”
“Zan-Zan!” Jabber, the annoying tattoo artist five shops down, greets him happily as he trots up to the counter, “My, your customer service skills have gotten even worse!”
Zanka enjoys his life as a florist. He just wishes the stupid tattoo artist constantly ordering poisonous plants would stop pestering him with his pretty smile and bright eyes.

It’s fruitless and he knows it. Enjin laughs at him from where he’s just finished replacing all their old flowers. “Not a chance,” Jabber says chipperly, “You know damn well I’m hopin’ it’ll hurt, Zan-Zan.”

Enjin notices it first, eyes going wide and unable to look away. Zanka doesn’t say anything, just lets him get an eyeful of the ten, pretty silver rings decorating his fingers and pretending that they’ve always been there, that they belong there.
Zanka takes good care of vital instruments. It’s why he’s considered the best at handling them, after all.
