It’s not a particularly good line, and yet- Steve’s whole body flushes. He can smell the aftershave Tony uses, bergamot and leather; His breath catches on the shell of Steve's ear, and the low rumble of Tony's voice warms his belly.
Steve looks around, feeling caught out, but nobody’s paying attention to them. He thinks someone should be noticing this- that if people were looking, that would mean something was really happening.
‘I love you,’ Steve wants to say. ‘I’m sorry.’
(Everyone thinks Steve and Tony are in love. They are, of course- if only they could just tell each other.)

There are things happening that Steve doesn’t quite agree with. For example, the way Loki’s hands linger on Peni’s waist just after battle. Just because it’s legal now and was legal at the time he plunged into the ice doesn’t mean that it’s right – at least in his opinion. Then again, Loki’s age is forever a mystery to all of them save for Thor and Hela. Each time it happens, it prickles something in his chest. Really, it should be the least of his worries.
Bucky and Natasha spend a lot of time together. They’re not the same as the ones they had history with, but that doesn’t mean they can’t make new history. Steve’s disagreement with this isn’t anything other than selfish, a desire to be with the person who he knows best of everyone. It’s not that there isn’t enough camaraderie between them to keep Steve’s attention. To the contrary! It’s just...
