He was glad that Kurusu was so focused on her rambling, his phone buzzing in his hands with each message she sent as she went off. Goro didn't want her to notice how shaken he felt over the fact that for once, Loki wasn't muttering and whispering the best ways to kill a man into his ears, as if the Persona was looming over him, Robin Hood the only wall between them that kept Goro from sinking into true madness.
For once, it felt like Loki stood with him.
It was in that moment when Goro decided that his plans needed a change. That maybe, just maybe, it wouldn't be so terrible to make a friend.
Just this once.

As he spoke, he became aware of the corners of her mouth slowly pulling up, like a small black speck on the wall expanding moment by moment, one leg at a time, to reveal itself as a massive, furry tarantula. He paused, dimly aware of the platitude he'd ended on, as his attention was wholly taken up by the mounting horror of what he found in her twinkling-eyed smile:
Recognition.
There was something in her gaze that made him feel seen; it was like she was shining an unholy light into the deepest recesses of his mind. Was that how changes of heart worked? He skimmed over his unexpectedly cracked facade with a pleasant chuckle, smoothing out the rough patches until they sparkled with their usual mirror finish. "Well, I must be going; my train should be arriving any moment! Speaking with you is always enlightening," he said, but wait, did he already say that? Shit. There was something else he meant to say, the whole reason he'd started this conversation in the first place, and that was, "If it's not any trouble, would we be able to speak again sometime?"

Yu thought for a moment. Why was he so curious about Akira really? It’s not exactly like he had a real reason to be. But then he recalled the distressed face he saw when he went to the floodplain, his impassive expression and the lonely air that seemed to hang around him.
And then he thought back to his own lonely childhood, and days where he’d do his own shopping and return to an empty apartment. He’d make his own dinner and sit alone at the table those nights, thinking of the empty promises his parents made to him when they said they’d be home that day.
It all made perfect sense why he was so interested in Akira.
