After the incident at the wax museum and Adrien's casual proclamation of loving another girl Marinette comes clean to him about her true feelings. And breaks off their friendship.
She avoids and ignores him unable to bear her agonizing embarrassment and to attempt to get over him. But Adrien finds he is just as miserable and even though she said to stay away his lost friend is all he can think about. And he's willing do anything to get her back.

Then Shanks finds him, and the great Red Haired Emperor finally get's a good nights rest after 20 years of insomnia. He also can't understand why Buggy's in the situation he's in, or how he's managed to piss so many people off. He just hopes that his crew on the Red Force will eventually learn to love the feral little convict their leader is so obsessed with.

"So you're willing to force us into a bond neither of us would ever want, to risk literal insanity, just so you can get your precious peace?" Megatron says, voice filled with disbelief and disgust.
"It doesn't matter what I want," Optimus replies, ignoring the freezing ice creeping closer to his spark.
"And it doesn't matter what I want, either?" Megatron snarls at him.
"This isn't about us!" Optimus says, louder than intended. He berates himself for losing his composure when Megatron's lips curl into a smirk. "I am willing to do anything to keep Cybertron safe."
"Safe from me, you mean," Megatron says, gesturing towards the dark halls of the Nemesis outside of Optimus' prison cell.
"Yes.”
An arranged bond is a dangerous, loveless union in which one's death can have catastrophic consequences for the other. It's a trap with no way out.
It's also Optimus' only chance to end the war, so he proposes a deal Megatron is unable to refuse.
