Something shameful twists in Sherlock's gut, more pleasantly than he’d like to admit. Staring into James’s eyes from such close proximity felt like staring into the mouth of a double barrel gun and the adrenaline equally intense. Multiple emotions coursed through his bloodstream and made themselves known on the blush in his face: anxiety, tension, confusion…affection, admiration, excitement. Is it possible he’s still misunderstanding? He had never been particularly faithful, but for a short moment he internally prays he’s not getting it all wrong. Friendship is confusing. The hand on his shoulder trails up to the crook of his neck and he finds himself at a loss for coherent words.
