“You need to promise me you’ll keep it hidden. Maybe up here in that box.”
“Yeah, whatever-”
“No, not whatever.” he snapped, suddenly incredibly serious. His eyes were wide, un-sparkling with an element of fear around his silver irises. “I’m being deadly serious, Eridanus.”
“What.”
He licked his lips, looking as though he might backtrack before he lowered his voice and sighed, “Whisper.”
“I am whisper-Oh.”
He pulled out a wand from his pocket – unboxed. It was quite short and stubby in nature, pale wood and plain. The handle was simple, curling slightly towards the end, “I just…” he sighed, swallowing, “I don’t think mother and father will take you when you’re eleven.”
Sirius was fairly gentle deep down - he always had been - and he used this to his advantage as he pressed the wand into her tiny hand. Eridanus stayed momentarily silent, too many thoughts in her brain.
“I don’t think I can do it.” She said finally, “The magic.”
He sighed, looking as though he was going to say one thing before shaking his head, “No, me neither.”

“Oh.” his face promptly lost all lingering colour. The whites of his silver eyes were suddenly transparent, terrified. “Oh... no, I don’t think there are.”
She scowled, piecing together a dislocated jigsaw of thoughts happening far too quickly for her to keep up with. She felt him lift her down from his shoulders and onto the floor, watching up as a confused frown etched onto his young face, “But you said… mother said… the mudblo-?”
“Don’t say that word.” Sirius said weakly. He closed his eyes and took a long, shaking breath. “There’s muggleborns, yes. But you’re not… but you’re not a muggleborn, you’re a squib."Series

“You’re doing it again.” he spoke, removing his nimble fingers from his hair to drop down either side of his hips, propping back his body to bask in the golden summer heat, “Staring.”
“I’m not staring, James.” the other boy lowered himself under the stone lip of the pool he hid in with a telltale flush upon his high cheekbones and he looked up at his best friend with a scowl, “I’m looking.”
“Yeah, you’re looking with an incredibly specific look on your staring face.”
“And what look might that be?”
“The look of loooove- AH!”
An aggressive tug to his ankle and James was pulled unceremoniously into the water

“Right, okay, yes I do.” Sirius said sharply and James landed a hand on his trembling shoulder, “But I’m not funding your fucking habit Regulus. Again.”
“It’s not a habit! I could get clean whenever I wanted to.”
“Great.” Sirius couldn’t help the sarcasm as he waved his coffee bearing arm dramatically, “Get clean then, go on? Today.”
James squeezed the shoulder he’d taken and leaned over to take the mug from his best friends’ wild gesturing hand, planting it to safety on the first coaster he laid eyes on.
“I said if I wanted to.” he was chewing his lip again and Sirius cringed upon catching sight of his rotting teeth, “I don’t want to, do I?” he was very pale.
“…Why wouldn’t you want to, Reg?”
