He could understand why Sasha went on and on about laying eyes on Nicky and knowing they were meant to be, though. It was hard to remember a time when they weren’t in love, when they couldn’t look across a crowd, across the ice, and find each other with unerring accuracy. Like magnets, inevitably drawn together. So how had time not stopped, the earth not shaken, light not filled the room, when their hands touched that day?
In the end, they didn’t fall in love in that first moment, but that had been the beginning of their story. So, Sasha lied, because his version felt more like the truth.
