When Yibo gets the call to represent Apolune in a last-minute substitution for the Genubian asteroid rights negotiation, he drops everything to make it to Helion before the talks start. He gets there before his wardrobe does, even; and after a reception that passes in a sleep-deprived haze, he wakes the next day ready to face down the Helion consul and hold the line for Apolune.
That would be fine—this is Yibo’s job, after all. It’s just unfortunate that the consul of Helion has a very familiar face.

“You need to learn to take your time with some things, Wang Yibo,” Xiao Zhan says as he lets his fangs fully extend. The way that Yibo’s gaze drops to his mouth like he’s magnetised shouldn’t please Xiao Zhan as much as it does. “Have more patience.”
“You’ve had three-hundred years to hone your patience,” Yibo says with a little upward shift of his hips, stretching his arms above his head like he’s offering himself. The sun has well and truly set now, the light of the city at night much more pleasant than the sunlight of hours earlier. “I’m young and greedy.”
“Very greedy,” Xiao Zhan agrees, tucking his face back into Yibo’s neck.

Yibo had had years ahead of him before that consideration, but the present hadn’t been bad at all.

It’s been a really long time since they spent any time together, the reality of their tattered relationship sinking in as Xiao Zhan breathes in the still air. It had been easy to near-forget about Yibo, as bad as that sounds. When you no longer occupy the same spaces as someone else, when you’ve both got huge, sprawling careers and no longer need each other for anything, it takes no effort at all to fill the space with other things, other people. It sounds a little heartless when Xiao Zhan thinks of it like that, but Yibo has been the same, most people would be the same. As much as it felt like he couldn’t for the first few weeks after they split up, Xiao Zhan can live without Yibo. It’s just that he would rather not.
In the end, it’s Yibo who breaks the silence.
“Why are you here, Xiao Zhan?”

"I do." Yibo says it cheerfully and is pleased when Xiao Zhan drops his phone into his lap and turns fully towards Yibo. "Do you remember how pretty I am, though?"
Xiao Zhan tilts his head at him. "How could I forget, Wang Yibo?"
Yibo feels his grin get bigger—he can't help it. What is it about Xiao Zhan using his full name like that that gets him going? He just likes it so much. He wants him to do it again.
