Will had always been a quiet kid. In fact, it was evident in his mannerisms.
Usually when he was focused, he would gesture to his friends to show it, whether it'd be a tilt of the head or a slight raise of a hand. Instinctively, a tongue stuck out in concentration, but that was more subconscious than a purposeful factor. When he was scared, he would keep his voice down, or even when it came to it, refuse to talk at all.
Sometimes, it even took hours for him to be able to open his mouth again.
a non-verbal will fic based in between s2 and s3, madwise centric! small themes of elmax and byler are there but do not get together. i tried my best to keep this canon compliant :)

What’s even the point of keeping me around, Mike wonders. His eyebrows furrow at the thought of being left behind. Being forgotten. THE Superman up and leaving him, because if Eleven truly was Superman, he would absolutely leave without hesitation, he can fly, and he has lasers, and—…wait, Eleven’s a girl. Why doesn’t he just say a female hero?

Basically, this fic is mostly focusing on the internalized homophobia of both Will and Mike as Mike slowly realizes the many traits he thought he loved about El were everything Will had, while Will tries to force himself to like a girl (he won’t).
Written before many leaks/before season 5 release and plot was planned out before as well so this is not fully accurate!
