Summary

She whirled around at once. It was the girl she’d helped that morning, but much too close. Noriko stumbled a half step backwards, her entire body freezing up. “Y-yes?”
“D’you wanna go grab a coffee? I’ll pay, of course!” The smile on the girl’s face threatened to spill off.
“What?” Even after parsing the words, she felt like she was missing something. Why would she want to get coffee with this… random girl?
It's Noriko Kakyoin's first year at Akabane High School. By chance, she meets Jeanne-Perrine Polnareff, an energetic third-year exchange student who won't seem to leave her alone. The older girl's insistence on friendship starts to grate on Noriko, but maybe things will turn around...

Summary
During World War I, the Japanese Red Cross Society put together three teams to provide medical assistance in the European theater. These teams consisted of one doctor and twenty nurses, and due to their popularity, their stays were extended from their assigned five months to fifteen months. One of such teams was sent to Paris.
While fighting in the trenches, Jean-Pierre Polnareff is critically injured and brought back to Paris to be cared for, where he is eventually discharged from the army. Noriaki Kakyoin is assigned to take care of him, but the two form an immediate disdain for one another. Will things change as Polnareff recovers? How will he return to his family like this? And why does he seem so insistent to stick around Paris even after released from the hospital?

Summary
1989. Polnareff returns home after a hard-fought battle in Egypt to a sleepy village in France, where the hands of time have not budged an inch since he was a child. One lonely night, he calls the number that Noriaki Kakyoin gave him months before his untimely death.
Somebody answers the phone.
As the years pass, Polnareff develops a routine of calling that number and passing the time talking to the dead air, despite his increasingly-hectic deployments across France by the Speedwagon Foundation. But why? And in this life-after, why does he still insist on sliding into his old friend's after-life?
