The nurse, or warden, or whoever she was cause Will really didn't fucking care, stopped outside the room and unlocked it. Room number 11, of course. Will could throw up from the irony. He wasn't really listening to the nurse's instructions. He knew the drill by now, and his head was killing him, and all he wanted was to lay down and rest...
"Oh my god."
He stared wide eyed at the figure sitting on the other bed who had spoken to him. Mike fucking Wheeler.
"Of fucking course," Mike muttered, rolling his eyes and turning away from him.
"Nope." Will immediately turned around and tried to leave. "This isn't going to work."
"We have no other beds available, we're at full capacity," the nurse said.
"I can't stay here."
"We have no beds."
"So switch me with somebody else."
"It's already past lights out, nobody is moving until morning."
"Then send me to another fucking facility," Will said through gritted teeth.
...Anger, fear, trauma, grief. One turned to alcohol. One turned to drugs. Now, somehow, they've ended up sharing a room at the same mental hospital. Will and Mike are stuck, forced to work through their issues together, for better or for worse.

Summary
When Max is sent away for a month for advanced out of state hospital treatment, Lucas is left with way too much time and way too many feelings. So when he notices the unresolved tension simmering between Will and Mike, he decides to do something about it. But before he can even process what that truly entails, he’s already knee deep in secrets, feelings, and “friendships” that are a lot more complicated than he signed up for.
OR: What starts as a distraction from missing Max turns into the most complicated plan of Lucas’s life as he shifts from helping Will get over Mike to setting them up together (because he’s the bestest, most supportive friend ever, obviously!)

Summary
Mike recalls the brief interaction he had this morning in the hallway for perhaps the hundredth time. Maybe his friends can help. Help with what exactly, Mike doesn’t know— but something has been bugging him and he needs to get to the bottom of it.
“Hey, do you guys know that kid that wears all black? Chain belt? Eyeliner?”
“The gay kid?” Dustin supplies.
Oh, that’s right. Mike knew he had heard about him somewhere. He’s kind of famous around school. Well, him and his boyfriend. Even with it being 2006, they’re still the only openly gay people at the school.
Mike nods. “Yeah, I guess. I ran into him this morning. Literally, like we collided.”

Mike has a run-in with Will Byers, the school’s so-called “gay kid”. He takes it upon himself to befriend him, and quickly learns about Will’s relationship troubles with his boyfriend Matt. Along the way, Mike struggles with his identity, and Will struggles with his self-worth.

As if that weren’t bad enough, they move into the guest house of Joyce’s childhood best friend, Karen Wheeler, and her picture-perfect family.

Summary
Will pressed his face to the glass, wishing that he were closer. The man’s cheeks were pale, having thick eyebrows and lips. His nose was long, though it didn’t disrupt the harmony of the man’s features. His eyes were the most captivating part of his face: wide and brown, reflecting the moonlight.
In other words, he was beautiful.
Will found himself blushing, feeling foolish for swooning over the knight, who clearly was just doing his job. He couldn’t help but itch for his parchment and ink, to see the man up close, take in those eyes when they weren’t forced to remain a disciplined neutral.
Or: William Byers is a prince under King Henry's rule, known for being one of the most exceptional clerics of the entire lands. In comparison, his life remains pretty lackluster, and Will is convinced that nothing more will ever come of it.
That is, until a certain Sir Michael Wheeler is elected as Will's personal knight.
