“Happy late birthday, Ben,” Henry says as he eases down on the picnic blanket, leaning over to kiss Benedict on the cheek.
He leans closer, brushing their shoulders together, before looking back at the night sky. Henry keeps finding these hidden spots for them, places where the greenery overtakes the city and they can pretend to be out in the countryside. The first time Benedict confessed that—that he would rather live out in the wilderness than in the middle of skyscrapers—Henry laughed and told him it was very ‘brooding artist’ of him.
After that, he told Benedict he intended to make out with him in every garden in Chicago.
Benedict, obviously, has been helping with that dream.
“You should have seen the circus yesterday,” he says, moving to drape a leg over Henry’s.
Henry laughs and shoves him off. “I do not need a front row seat to the Bridgerton show, thank you very much. One Bridgerton is enough for me.”

A pile of boy and broomstick lay on the street’s cobbles, deposited squarely on top of her new hat. The boy bit of the pile groaned as he levered himself to his feet. He rubbed a hand through his chestnut curls, both in embarrassment and in an anxious check for spillage.
Another boy, still sat on a broomstick hovering a foot from the ground, was in hysterics.
“Nice one Bridgerton!” he wept.
The first boy grimaced, but his green eyes still sparkled with humour. “Enough, Cedric,” he mumbled, then reached down and picked up Penelope’s hat. He dusted it down with his even dustier hands, then paused and abashedly handed it back to her before he could cause any further damage.
“Sorry, that wasn’t very well done of me, was it?” He gave her a sheepish lopsided smile.
It was in that moment, at eleven-years-old, as she took back her dusty new hat with shaky fingers, that Penelope Featherington fell in love.

He wouldn’t go. He’d never get to Hogwarts, and he’d never be a proper wizard. He’d stay with her, like her, one foot in and one foot out of both worlds.
Quite abruptly, she lost interest in her own ice cream and offered it to Lyall, over Remus’ indignant and chocolate-smeared head.
There was the magical-world-induced inadequacy and melancholy that always got her in the end. The strange sickening feeling of jealous want and bitter resentment - perhaps with a healthy dose of guilt mixed in, too.

anything that fits chronologically into the kmim’verse (my central fantastic beasts universe, focusing on the fics “never love an anchor” and “keep me in mind”) will be moved there. these are just other little bits that likely won’t fit in with the universe, timeline-wise or which might loosely fit but I don’t want to canonise for the kmim’verse. or perhaps even belong to a different au! or explore a different angle of the kmim’verse to an extent I haven’t properly linked into everything else and can’t really go back to change (looking at you, “flower into wounds” and Theseus’s OCD)
i tend to explore my ideas through writing them out and never share them, so here is me trying and experimenting :)
