“Uhh.. none taken. For the record,” Eddie spared him a glance from the steering wheel, revealing his absolutely pummeled face, “The kids are the ones calling the shots here. It’s my life in their hands. If that helps.”
“It absolutely does not.” Replied Steve, dropping his head back down to Dustin’s shoulder, “I wanna go home.”

As he tries to lift his feet, he finds he cannot. A square of light binds his feet to their current position. Inching his eyes down and ahead, he identifies a pathway of these very same bright tiles. His aching neck pain dulling in intensity, Jim’s gaze follows the pathway to the end.
A thick glass box, tall and rectangular, contains an energy shield on all sides for confinement. Jim squints to see what’s behind the wall.
Spock’s face reflects back at him, slashed with green blood on one cheek and covered in grime. Jim’s knees wobble.

But what begins as a bureaucratic error turns into late-night debates, entirely too much eye contact, and four years of shared space neither of them really wants to give up. Spock documents everything. Jim leaves snarky annotations. Somewhere between the arguments and the quiet cups of tea, something real begins to form.
Love, as it turns out, is just a series of annotated behavioral logs waiting for a final conclusion.
