"To hell with duty, Merlin. I deserve a morning off. I deserve a lifetime off, as a matter of fact." The blonde finally lifted his head to meet Merlin's gaze, icy eyes flitting sleepily across Merlin's face as though he needed a moment to relearn it.
"Ah, but then what would you need me for?" Merlin responded with a grin. "I'd be out of a job. What would I do? No armour to shine? No boots to polish? No prat to yell at me every morning?"
"Merlin?" The King muttered, looking partly bemused and partly incredulous. Mostly, he was looking at Merlin's lips.
"Mm?"
"Shut up."
