“No, Arthur, I—” Merlin abruptly cut herself off, shaking her head, “no, you know what, actually, I’m just…”
Acting on impulse, and probably stupidity, Merlin lifted her hands and fumbled with the tie of her neckerchief before letting it slip off and fall to the ground in front of herself. Then, she gripped the bottom hem of her tunic tight and pulled it over her head in one quick, swift action.
As the piece of clothing dropped to the ground next to her, she watched Arthur’s eyes widen. She didn’t stop there, however. Feeling brave and a bit brazen, she let her hands find the bandages wrapped tight around her chest and tugged at the edge until it came loose. She watched the realisation settle on Arthur’s features, paired with a deep flush, as she unwrapped the cloth and let it fall with the rest of her top-wear.
“I,” she said, emphasising the word as the last of the bandages hit the dirt, “am not a man.”
