Summary
Luke looks up at him, mind going a million miles an hour, considering the proposition. This was fucking insane, he would be insane to agree to it. He could literally be murdered. By a fit-and-nice-but-possibly-a-murderer Australian man.
Luke sighs and shakes his head, but he can’t help but smile. “I don’t know anything about you, I don’t even know your name, why would I get in a car with you for the next three weeks?”
The man’s lips quirk up slowly, knowing Luke’s made up his mind.
“We’ve got time for all of that,” he says, grin growing wider. He reaches his hand down to Luke. “I’m Calum.”
Luke's just got to California, on a trip to get away from his life for a while. Calum might be there for the same reason. When a chance meeting pushes them together, Luke might get more out of the four-week road trip than he ever imagined.

Is Cal too forward? It feels it but I don’t know if that’s your full name or not so I’m going to stick to it.
I feel like I need to actually craft a proper thank you and I’m sorry if this is oddly personal, I’ve literally never written a thank you email to a blog before, is this how you’re meant to frame it?
I literally can’t cook for shit, I’ve never learnt how. My mum keeps saying that I’ll never amount to anything if I don’t learn (I have a job), so I’m trying but I’m still well, pretty shitty. I feel like I need to thank you for all your service so far in making me a more adjusted man, you have no idea what presence you’ve had in my life over the past six months. I’ve made so many of your recipes I’m basically your biggest fan.

Travelling so often is just a side effect of his job, and of the promotion he’d been given almost six months ago. One perk of all the back-and-forth he does in order to keep his fancy new title of Senior Project Manager of Copyright & Publishing is: Luke.
Luke is a flight attendant who works for United Airlines. When Calum’s lucky, he’s a flight attendant on the flight Calum is on, to wherever his next hotel room turned conference room is located. He’s been lucky more often than not lately, because Luke has been on every flight that Calum has been on for the past eight weeks.

Calum's never heard of Tindr when he logs on one night. He's feeling reckless, so he chooses men. No one will ever know. No one can ever know. It's just for fun, it doesn't mean anything, he likes girls. But then Luke's Hemmings face comes up as he's flicking through. Everything changes when someone knows.
Or; Calum hides and Luke helps him find himself.

So as the clock is bitterly creeping towards midnight, signifying the start of a new year, Calum throws his own New Year’s resolution into the atmosphere. As the crowd screams through the final five, four, three, two, one, Calum lets himself be swept up in the excited energy of another year ending, a new one beginning. The people around him cheer and kiss and celebrate, full of glee and promises for a better year than the last and Calum melts into it, even smiling a bit through the confetti and champagne.
Maybe it’s time to move out of New York City.

“Cal! Have you met Luke?” Ashton has one arm around a tall blonde guy wearing a sheepish smile and a barely buttoned shirt, and he wraps his other around Calum, pulling him in close. “You should talk. You’ve got a lot in common. Shit exes, for example.”
Calum looks over this Luke person he apparently has a lot in common with, and he does seem a little familiar. Maybe Calum has met him before. But that doesn’t seem right either, because he thinks he’d remember meeting someone so…bright. Noticeable. Luke doesn’t exactly blend into a crowd. Calum’s not certain, though — he could’ve met Luke while he was super drunk or super tired or super distracted by his ex-boyfriend.
“Sure, yeah,” Calum agrees, dodging the question. “Luke, would you like to spend a fun evening talking about our shit exes and feeling sad about it?”
