The next moment, he's rolling over, opening his mouth to exhale out a good morning, and what comes out instead is:

Then, one day, Martin opens his eyes to the sight of Jon’s face squished against his pillow, illuminated by yellow bars of light where the morning sun is shining in through the blinds. Jon cracks his eyes open to look at Martin, and the dormant thing in Martin’s chest twitches, rolls over in its sleep, and wakes up. There's a ragged sound, rusty and disused, and when Martin opens his mouth, what comes out, completely without his consent, is:

Summary
Sometimes Martin envies type A people their extensive vocabulary of subvocalizations. They get to use their subvocal suite to communicate perfectly reasonable things, like back off and that's mine and hello sexy. Unlike Martin, whose subvocals exist for the sole purpose of making him sound like the biggest, whiniest baby. Especially when he's coming up on a heat.
Martin keeps it under wraps as best he can, but there's only so long he can hold it in. So, sometimes, after a long workday, Martin double-checks that everyone else has left the archives, makes sure the door at the top of the stairs is locked, and lets loose a bit. Throws himself a little pity party. He's entitled to it. He's earned it.
Specifically, it's the kind of pity party that involves relaxing the muscles of his throat, feeling the vibrating thrum building up behind his teeth, and exhaling out a mournful trill of hello? I'm here? Is anyone there? I'm here. I'm all alone.

Tim didn’t come back quite right, his elbows turned to ball-joints, his fingers no longer quite as clever or quite as graceful due to their rigidity, the waxy plastic of his body melting and reforming when he’s not paying enough attention to it. It’s like the Stranger tried to consume him and then spit him right back out, Tim’s taste too bitter, too sure of himself, just for the fire and the destruction to claim him moments later.
Jon supposes it wouldn’t be the first time Tim tried to flirt with two beings at once and ended up in trouble because of it.

Tim Stoker calls himself a romantic. Those close to him have other words for it. His mom is nice about it and calls him “too sweet for his own good” while Danny calls him “pathetic.” All that matters though is that Tim is, in fact, a hopeless romantic (“Emphasis on hopeless,” his dad always quipped, earning a slap to the shoulder from his mom).
All this really means, though, is that Tim falls fast and hard for everyone. Usually, the crushes fade fairly fast, but sometimes there are crushes that just stick and as long as he’s around his object of affection, the crush will never fade.
And, unfortunately, The Magnus Institute seems to employ exclusively hot people.
