“If you had completely and utterly lost your mind beyond your usual insanity, you’d want me to tell Kunikida-san, right?” Atsushi asked.
An odd question but an easy enough one to answer. “Of course,” he said.
“And… Kunikida-san would… He’d want the same, right? Because he knows I wouldn’t be equipped to help him. It’d have to be you since you know him best?”
"Yes, of course."
“Well, Dazai-san he… I’ve been watching Kunikida-san all morning and… I’ve never seen him like this.”
“Oh?”
“He looks the same way you did when you ate that poisonous mushroom…” Atsushi shuddered at the memory, “He’s been scribbling in his notebook for the past hour or so — not neatly like normal! The pages are piling up around him and I’m afraid he’s going to run out of paper soon! I don’t know what’s gotten him so obsessive but I’m really worried!”----
Kunikida's gone crazy. Dazai needs to find out why.

Summary
Kunikida and Dazai are two partners in a highschool biology project with their own personal problems, which they work through together during their progressing friendship and relationship. Nothing comes easy for the two, and will have made things more complicated and harder to understand.
Kunikida doesn’t exactly like Dazai now. Jokes with Yosano still get under his skin, but they’re not taken personally to the same degree as if it were instead a stranger insulting him. Kunikida had just met Yosano’s friend, and already he hasn’t gotten a good impression from him. It’s not like my first impression was any better, he thinks.
“...”
“Are you not going to greet me?” Dazai asks lightheartedly, though the question sounds spoiled to Kunikida.
“Hello, Dazai.” He speaks with no respect in his tone.
Yosano cringes while watching her two friends interact.

The Armed detective agency is hosting a party for their reopening in Yokohama. Their reputation is still in the eye of the storm, but for tonight they allow themselves to celebrate.
Or at least that’s how it goes until Yosano pours too much wine in Kunikida’s glass and gets him drunk. At least, that’s how it goes until Kunikida and Dazai end up both drunk and kiss. At least, that’s how it goes, until Ranpo discovers it and tells the whole office, starting the “kiss gate” gossip.But fine, Kunikida can ignore what happened, after all it meant nothing to him. His list about his Ideal partner has fifty eight points, fifteen topics and eight pages, and Dazai doesn’t fit even one of them. Not to mention that he’s a man, and Kunikida is not interested in men. Right?
So why does he feel like alcohol brought up feelings he buried inside himself for years?
And why Naomi is writing fanfiction about them?
Or better: after Fyodor's death and the temporary shutdown, the agency reopens, Kunikida and Dazai get drunk and kiss, changing their relationship forever.

Summary
Every night, Kunikida is subjected to fragmented dreams of what his infuriating colleague Dazai is going to experience the next day. Oftentimes, they are great for planning ahead and keeping Dazai out of trouble, or for predicting his schemes. But one night, he gets a dream so ill in Dazai's favor that it wakes Kunikida up. Soon he finds himself standing outside of Dazai's dorm, wishing the sun would never rise.

"Hours of the day, previously designated to meticulous planning and proper compartmentalization of thoughts, had been newly appointed to a new notebook riddled with his complicated feelings for Dazai. Once so competent, wholly eloquent, and in tune with his emotions, Kunikida was stuck."
A longer-form, slow-burn take on Kunikida and Dazai's dynamic during first introductions in "Osamu Dazai's Entrance Exam" as they gradually reach the more intimate trust they currently hold. Context from novel is not necessarily required to enjoy :]
UPDATE: as of Sept 2025 this fic is likely abandoned, but I may come around to creating a second chapter for a more satisfying end. My commitment issues strike again, I am unfortunately no longer big on BSD. Regardless, I am very fond of Kunizai and my intentions for this fic. Sincerest apologies kunizai nation.

Dazai Osamu does not need help.
Nor does he need pity, or care, or looks of sympathy.
Logically, he knew he needed help. Badly. Desperately, even. Yet, he didn’t want it: for a multitude of reasons, some complex, some not–-above all though, even with a racing mind that never once stopped thinking, he knew two things:
1. He didn’t need the help of someone, and
2. He didn’t want to get better, because the familiarity of his feelings were, in a strange way, comforting.However, when a certain idealistic, schedule-strict partner begins to try and help him, it becomes harder to keep up the facade that he can handle things alone.

Kunikida Doppo is a man of ideals.
He’s supposed to be the core of the agency: Brave, strong, tough: professional, level-headed, never wavering. Kunikida Doppo is supposed to be the epitome of strength. The version of Kunikida Doppo reserved to the confines of his apartment is not the version anyone else needs to see--even if that means destroying himself all the while.
However, when a partner he thinks of as a thorn in his side begins to soften his edges around him, he begins to realize that, perhaps, he can too.
