Summary
When the avengers successfully brought back the missing half of the universe, Shuri felt happier than she had in years. Her umama and ubhuti had returned. The two people she loved and cared about the most in the world - the two people she had lost all those years ago - had finally returned to her, unharmed and healthy. She was so thankful she even spared a prayer to Bast, the goddess she had long since turned her back on. But now, barely two weeks later, they seek to uproot her life and take her throne.

Shuri shakes her head. If she thinks about it any longer, she knows she’ll end up backing out.
“No, no. Let’s just do this,” she tells him. “I’m just a little nervous. I’ve never done… you know… a nude photoshoot before. It’s supposed to be a surprise, a gift for my husband. Our one-year anniversary is in two weeks.”

The scene before him should incite anger – years of precious history immortalized on the walls of his hut now ruined. But, as Namor gazes at the tiny grey and green handprints smeared on the walls, the only emotion they incite is fond exasperation. It doesn’t matter that his fresh pot of green paint lay spilled and running across the stone floor, or that the blue clay he ground up to make new pigments now coats his brand-new brushes, sitting atop them like dry sand.
Namor's paintings have been ruined and he can tell from the little handprints just who the culprit is.

“Come on,” she hears him taunt just as she stumbles into the water. She doesn’t need to look back to know he’s on the beach now too. “You’re a coward! Just like your daddy. I gave you a chance, cous'. To join me. But you threw it in my face, just like your brother! Just like your mother! At least they had the guts to fight me and lose with their dignity. What are you gonna do? Fucking drown yourself? So much for being the greatest mind since Tony Stark. You’re weak!”
She doesn't tell him that she doesn't intend to drown herself.
Shuri is waist deep in the water now and she releases a ragged cry as the salt water lashes and burns her wounds. Still, she finds the courage to turn and face her cousin. She has to look into his eyes one last time. She needs him to remember the face of the woman who would return to destroy him.
When Killmonger succeeds in taking over Wakanda, Shuri receives help from the unlikeliest of allies as she embarks on a journey of vengeance and retribution.
