“Hello,” Elio said again, this time in English, and Oliver’s heart jolted back to beating. Yes, it was him, alive and well and breathing. His hair was less wind-blown and his shoulders and arms more filled out compared with the string limbs of that summer, but the softness of youth still lingered on his face.

Because Elio is petty as fuck and not as grown-up as he likes to pretend, he asks, “You ever heard from Chiara again?”
