Lance believed his dad, wide eyed and expectant, fresh and impressionable. Yet, one day his dad grew weary, grew tired, eyes heavy with knowledge that a young child could never comprehend. “One day, son, it’s possible our spacesuits won’t need treaded boots ever again. One day soon we’ll get tired of wandering and move back home for good. We’ll get used to watching our feet as we walk, occasionally stopping to hurl a single probe into the abyss.” Now he wonders if his dad was much more than a theorist. Was he like Pidge, tirelessly searching for something nobody else believed in? Did he find it?

Summary
It was Keith, mostly, who couldn’t handle the Castle for these endless days in space, but Lance had woken up a few times on his own, desperate for air, for space that wasn’t infinite blackness or the inside of metal walls. On Lance's few bad nights, Keith would trail after him to the pool, and they would float together in the water with their eyes shut.
Lance and Keith have been back on the Castle for three weeks, and yet they don’t feel like they’ve come home.
The rest of Team Voltron is somehow still missing Lance and Keith. These space cowboy mercenaries don’t quite fit in Paladin armour. They haven’t reached out to their Lions. They fight with a callous brutality.
On the darkest days, Pidge wonders if they even wanted to be saved.
