There, he meets Park Sunghoon, an intellectual lawyer who does what no one else ever has—he listens. The man values Sunoo’s thoughts and looks past the plainness he has been taught defines him. But to be understood so completely is unsettling, even frightening.
Because for Sunoo, being seen might mean risking everything he has built to protect himself, including his heart.

It was a sterile, grey-walled space that smelled faintly of printer ink and cold coffee — a room where missions were handed down like verdicts, and agents accepted them with straight backs and unreadable faces. Sunghoon had sat in this room dozens of times. He knew the protocol. He knew the drill.
He was not prepared for this.
"Fake marrige."
The word — both of them, together, forming that unholy combination — left Director Choi's mouth with the same calm authority he used to assign every mission, as though he had just said something entirely reasonable. As though he had not just detonated a grenade in the center of the room.
The echo of it seemed to bounce off every wall.
Beside Sunghoon, he heard it — a sound so foreign, so raw and unfiltered, that it almost didn't seem human.

Sunghoon swallowed thickly and nodded. For a fraction of a second, he considered not saying anything back— praying that the emotion shining in his eyes would be enough.
But Sunoo deserved more than that. He deserved to hear the words back, ten times, a hundred times, a thousand times.
So even if his voice cracked a little, heavy with feeling, Sunghoon still whispered the same three words. And if Sunoo noticed, he was kind enough not to point it out.
