“Will you tell me about what it is that haunts you?” Thomas asks, as forward as ever when shepherding James through his own recalcitrance. There’s no surprise in this, considering that the only things that James has not yet shared are the parts of his history that spook him from the darkness within which he keeps them.
The parts that cannot be spoken without also speaking of John Silver.
A name that is a ghost in his blood; a shadow that breathes alongside him and tethers part of him to the shadows. To expose him now, even to Thomas, may at last serve to banish that ghost to somewhere James cannot follow. Somewhere he’s desired to leave Silver since the moment everything ended, but cannot. Will not. The echo of him is as perplexing and infuriating as the man himself.
And damn it all, James misses him.

James finds it remarkable, how gathering his thoughts in this moment is a lot like trying to finesse his crew back from a mutiny. Tense anticipation knots his shoulders. Control dances neatly from between his fingers, every confession he wishes to make staying just out of reach yet watching him with demanding eyes.
It's hard to know which confessions to watch back; which will turn on him and become the noose with which he hangs. Which ones will put the lever in Thomas' hands. Which may convince him to pull it.
Thomas had been willing to pardon pirates, all those years ago. Would he pardon a monster, surrendered at his feet?

By 18 years of age, Porchay has spent just about as much time in dojangs as he has in school. The reason behind this is two fold, he enjoys watching the brother he idolizes do what he does best and also given the dead parents and uncle who is a less than stellar guardian he goes where Porsche can keep an eye on him. Not that Chay has stepped a toe truly out of line in his entire life.
Or Chay knows how to throw a punch and he and Kim make it out of the near kidnapping together but that doesn’t solve all or really any of their problems.
