The urn is plain and unbefitting a Peak Lord of Cang Qiong Mountain Sect. Liu Mingyan keeps her grip firm as she stands at the edge of the waves, letting them crash against her bare feet. The last time she’d been to the ocean side, Liu Qingge had been here, playing and splashing in the salty water alongside her; she can almost hear the echo of their laughs.
She steps deeper, the frigid water splashing against her thighs, soaking her clothes through. She ignores the chill and opens the container of ashes, using all of her strength to empty the urn and scatter its contents across the waves.
The halcyon days are long gone. She prays the dead can rest in peace. Then she steps out of the ocean and presses forward, to continue the hunt, as the Lius do.
