Vissenta coughs to disguise the hysterical giggle bubbling up in her throat, but to Julian, it must only register as shock, or agreement, or perhaps both, and he leans forward again, his expression an exaggerated grimace.
“Death,” he says on a whisper, “has no interest in an abomination like me.”
“Oh, hardly,” Vissenta says, echoing the voice in her mind that now chuckles in approval. When Julian gapes at her, she seizes her opening to sweep all but the Death card back into her hands. “Death comes for us all.”--
